If you’ve ever finished a Pilates class thinking, “I’d love to do this for a living,” you’re not alone. Teaching Pilates is one of the most rewarding careers you can have. Helping people move better, feel stronger, and live more mindfully. Whether you're transitioning from another career or deepening your own practice, here's a simple guide to help you take those first steps.

Step 1: Fall in Love with the Practice
Before you can teach, you have to LOVE Pilates. Explore different styles; mat, Reformer, classical, contemporary and find the one that resonates most. The best instructors are those who teach from passion and personal experience.
Tip: Attend classes with a variety of instructors to experience different cueing styles and teaching approaches.
Step 2: Choose the Right Training Program
Not all teacher training courses are created equal. Look for a comprehensive, accredited program that covers anatomy, technique, teaching skills, and practical experience.
At Pilates Training Hub, we offer a well-rounded, supportive course in Chichester, with a strong focus on rehabilitation and real-world teaching.
Step 3: Complete Your Coursework & Practical Hours
Expect a mix of learning styles: lectures, self-study, practical workshops, and real teaching practice. A solid program should include observing experienced instructors, practice teaching, and receiving feedback.
This is also where mentoring comes in. Surround yourself with people who are already teaching, it’s one of the fastest ways to grow your confidence and skills.
Note: At Pilates Training Hub, we connect trainees with local studios to help them gain valuable shadowing hours.
Step 4: Get Certified & Insured
Once you pass your assessments, you’ll receive your certification—and it’s time to make things official. You don't need much to get started:
Professional liability insurance
Studio or space to instruct
Mat
Client screening form (Par-q)
Step 5: Start Teaching & Keep Learning
Whether you begin by covering classes at your local studio, offering 1:1 sessions, or teaching friends and family, the best way to build confidence is by just getting started. Every class will teach you something new. Not just about your clients, but about yourself.
Stay open to feedback, attend workshops, and stay connected to the Pilates community. Teaching is a journey, and you’ll grow more with every step.
